Street Children Program
Children who work on the streets have a premature entry to the working world. In addition to the problems of missing out on schooling, street work in a big city is unsafe and many of the children are at risk of prostitution, drug addiction, delinquency and other social problems.
At this project our volunteers assist the children with their homework, and help them to catch up with any work they have not been able to complete, due to absence from school through working. In addition, our volunteers run workshops on important issues such as health, hygiene, drug awareness and domestic violence. One of the big problems these children encounter is a lack of hygiene. For this, the children are taken to the dentist once a week, where preventative treatment is done in order to try and stop the tooth decay which afflicts so many poor Peruvians.
